Nearest restrooms
One list, nearest first, by straight-line distance from the searched point. Each source is searched to its own distance, stated below the filters. Refuge Restrooms listings are crowd-sourced and unverified.

Source status
Each source is checked on its own. A source that fails is marked unavailable; it never counts as zero or as none listed.

What this does not cover
- Not a complete list. Many restrooms in businesses, libraries, parks and transit stations are not listed in either source.
- Refuge Restrooms is crowd-sourced. Entries are submitted by the public, and its oldest ones were imported from an earlier site (Safe2Pee), and they are not verified by staff. The site focuses on safe restrooms for transgender, intersex and gender nonconforming people, and many entries are years old. Some sit at a city's center point instead of the real location.
- OpenStreetMap is volunteer-edited. It often lacks fee, hours or accessibility tags. Restrooms in businesses may be listed for customers only.
- Free means tagged fee=no, and open to anyone. "Free" appears only where OpenStreetMap is tagged fee=no and the toilet is not marked customers only. Refuge Restrooms records no cost and no hours, so its entries always show cost unknown and hours not listed.
- Public is not promised. Refuge Restrooms lists many restrooms inside businesses, and it does not record who may use them. A business may ask you to be a customer. In OpenStreetMap, a toilet with no access tag may also be restricted.
- United States and its territories only. A place name from another country may match a U.S. place with the same name.
- No live status. Nothing here says whether a restroom is open, closed, out of order or clean right now.
- Straight-line distances. Distances are measured in a straight line from the searched point, not along a walking route.
- Empty means none listed. When a source shows none, it means none are listed in that source within the distance searched. It does not mean none exist. A source that failed is shown as unavailable, never as none.
- Where to look next. Ask the venue, a library, a transit agency or a local information line (dial 2-1-1 or visit 211.org) for public restrooms that are not listed here.
Sources
Every listing shows its own data date from its source. Nothing on this page is cached from elsewhere or filled in when a source fails.
Place search: U.S. Census and OpenStreetMap Nominatim
ZIP codes: Census TIGERweb ZIP code areas, including the territories. A ZIP code with no Census area, such as many PO box ZIP codes, is reported as not found. Everything else: nominatim.openstreetmap.org, used only when you press Search, at most one request per second (usage policy).

Refuge Restrooms (crowd-sourced)
refugerestrooms.org, public API. This page asks for the nearest 100 restrooms within 20 miles of a point. Listings are submitted by the public. This page is not affiliated with or endorsed by Refuge Restrooms.
Date: shown after a search; each entry also shows its own update date.
Toilets: OpenStreetMap via Overpass
overpass-api.de, tried twice if it does not answer. Places tagged amenity=toilets within 3 miles, or within 15 miles when fewer than 5 are listed within 3. Private, staff-only, residents-only, disused and closed toilets are hidden.
